Connect 2.4Ghz Nordic NRF24L01+ transceiver to Arduino and run the pingpair_ack example sketch from the RF24 library. A pair of these will communicate over a range of approx 10-20m indoors with 2 concrete walls in-between. Range outdoors is approx 20-40m. The scanner sketch is also useful to find free channel in heavy wifi traffic.
